Don Robert Webb, 83, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2012, in Phoenix with his children at his side.
Don was born in Jasper on August 2, 1928, the first child of Roy and Thelma Webb. Don proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, having enlisted at the age of 17. Upon completion of his term of duty with the USMC, he subsequently joined the United States Air Force and continued his service as a member of the Air Force Reserve until 1969.
Don married Mary Catherine McNerney of Carthage on Valentine’s Day in 1954, and they moved to El Paso, Texas, where he was stationed. After his term of active duty in the Air Force was complete, Don and Mary moved to Eureka Springs, where he worked as a salesman for Swift & Co. until they moved to Columbia.
Don earned his Bachelor and Masters Degrees at Mizzou. He completed his education at the University of Illinois where he earned his Ph.D. in Finance. Returning to his native Missouri, Don was a professor in the Business School at the University of Missouri from 1963 to 1993, where he enjoyed teaching marketing and management.
During this time, Don also served as President of MNO Programs International and Organization Dynamics, both consulting and training firms, and was a keynote speaker at many corporate events throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Europe and South America. He served as a consultant to Rotary International at the time they were contemplating allowing women into the organization. He was proud to have been at the forefront of their subsequent change in membership guidelines. Don was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business honorary, Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and Rotary International.
Don is survived by sister, June Vignery of Tucson, Ariz., daughter Maret Webb Vehr and her husband Tony Vehr of Phoenix, son Robert Webb and his wife Monica Webb of Highland, Calif., and grandchildren John, Michelle, Ashley and Joseph Webb. Preceding Don in death were his father Roy Webb, mother Thelma Webb, wife Mary Webb, brother Richard Webb and sister Jewel Porter.
It was Don’s wish to have a simple cremation and be buried next to his loving wife. Interment service will be held at Park Cemetery in Carthage on Monday, June 18, 2012, at 1 p.m.
