Thomas Baumgardner, 73, was leader in Columbia business community

Thomas E. Baumgardner of Columbia died Thursday, May 31, 2012. He was 73.

Mr. Baumgardner was born Nov. 15, 1938, in Doniphan to Joseph Earl and Xetah (Finch) Baumgardner.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1962 to 1964 and, after his return, served in the Army Reserves until 1971.

Mr. Baumgardner worked as a financial adviser, regional leader and general partner with Edward Jones for 45 years. He served on the Missouri MOST Board and Columbia Public Schools Long Range Planning Finance Committee. He was on the board of directors of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Baumgardner was an elder and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. He served as president of the Columbia Downtown Rotary and was a Paul Harris Fellow.

Mr. Baumgardner is survived by his wife, Lynnanne Welch Baumgardner; two daughters, Elizabeth Baumgardner Tidmarsh and Katherine Baumgardner Marzo; a sister, Margaret Baumgardner Kovac; five grandchildren, Alice Tidmarsh, Sam Tidmarsh, Georgia Marzo, June Marzo and Waylon Marzo; a nephew, Thomas Kovac; a niece, Sara Kovac Brown; and an uncle, Bryce Finch.

His parents died earlier.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt St. A reception will follow at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster College, 501 Westminster Ave. in Fulton, and First Presbyterian Church.
