Dorothy 'Dottie' Dillow, Dec. 13, 1925 – June 8, 2012

Dorothy “Dottie” Jones Dillow, 86, of Bryant, Arkansas passed away June 8, 2012. She was born December 13, 1925, in Austin, Texas to Alfanso and Columbia Jones.

After graduating from Austin High School in 1941, Dottie attended the College of Charleston and then the University of Texas. In June, 1947 she married Rex Dillow, a Marine Corps Captain, who was also attending the University of Texas. They have one son, Matthew and one daughter, Mary Elizabeth.

Rex and Dottie opted for a Marine Corps career, which necessitated frequent family moves and his absence on Marine Corps deployments for periods of a year or more. A very cheerful type person, Dottie maintained a happy family life during her husband’s absences. She was a prominent participant in social and philanthropic organizations, receiving citations from the American Red Cross and Navy Relief Society. While living in Columbia after her husband’s retirement from the Marine Corps in 1970, she was active in Fortnightly, a club of University wives, and in King’s Daughters. Dottie and Rex moved to Benton, Arkansas in January of this year.

In addition to her husband, Dottie is survived by son, Matthew of Benton;  daughter, Mary Elizabeth Manka of Brighton, Colorado, and two grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth Manka and Christopher Manka.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Margarita Coats and Alberta Barbour.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Columbia, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 15, 2012 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association, Mid-Missouri Chapter, 2400 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, MO 65201 or University of Missouri – Tiger Gardens CAFNR Advancement Office,  2-4 Agriculture Building,  Columbia, MO 65211
