COLUMBIA — The alley between Broadway and Walnut Street will be temporarily closed beginning Monday morning.

The closure will be enforced in segments, beginning with the stretch of alley from Short Street to Tenth Street, which will be closed for one week, according to a news release from the Community Development Department.

Afterward, the segment from Tenth Street to Ninth Street is expected to close for three days.

The last area to be closed will be the segment from Ninth Street to the north-south alley just west of Ninth Street.

The closures will allow Mediacom to install conduits for a new fiber optic line. Closure hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The closures are expected to last until June 29, weather permitting, according to the release. In the meantime, pedestrians and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Supervising editor is Jake Kreinberg.
