COLUMBIA — Creola S. Jones of Columbia died Thursday, June 14, 2012. She was 97.
Mrs. Jones was born April 18, 1915, in Cairo, Mo., to Aubrey and Opal (Halliburton) Skinner.
In 1934, she graduated with an associate's degree in education from Moberly Junior College. She later earned degrees in elementary education and secondary education and a master's degree in guidance and counseling all from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville.
She married Orley Jones in 1940.
Mrs. Jones taught for 26 years in Cairo, Mo. She later held the position of freshman counselor at Northeast Missouri State University until her retirement in 1977.
In Columbia, Mrs. Jones volunteered at the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and the Daniel Boone Regional Library. She was the oldest member of the Cairo Christian Church and taught Sunday school for several years.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Kay Jones; niece, Pamela Riedel; nephew, Mike Taylor; and several cousins.
Her husband, Orley Jones, died earlier.
Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Cater Funeral Home, 1520 E. Rollins St., Moberly, MO 65270. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home followed by interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, 101 W. Wightman St., Moberly, MO 65270.
