Helveys celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

COLUMBIA — Howard Helvey, son of Bill and Julia Helvey, honored his parents' 50th wedding anniversary by performing a concert at the First Christian Church in Mount Vernon. 

His parents were married at the church on June 16, 1962.  The concert was open to the public and many family, friends and residents of the small rural town where the Helveys had grown up. A reception followed.

Howard Helvey is music director for Calvary Episcopal Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He has degrees in music composition and performance from MU and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He is known for his compositions and leads choral reading clinics and performs solo and duo piano concerts in many cities each year.
