MyZou: 12 steps to class registration

COLUMBIA — MyZou is the keeper of grades, scholarship information and the all-important class schedule.

For students, myZou can be life-saving. However, even for upperclassmen, it can be confusing.

MyZou offers more

 MyZou isn’t just a place to go for registering for classes. It holds grades and academic records, scholarships and schedules. Here is a brief list of some of the things you can do on myZou:

  •  Check your class schedule
  •  Find out your enrollment date for the next semester
  •  View and accept/decline financial aid
  • Pay your bill
  • Update your address and phone number
  • View your official grades and GPA
  •  Find out who your adviser is
  • Request your official transcript
  • View your residence hall assignment
  • See MU policies, such as the Drug and Alcohol Policy
  • Read MU’s Campus Safety and Crime Reports

Here is a step-by-step guide to sign up for classes and secure a perfect schedule.

Note: Make sure to meet with your adviser before registering to understand what you need to take and when.

Step 1: Go to myzou.missouri.edu.

Step 2: Login with a PawPrint and password.

If you don’t have your PawPrint and password memorized, work on it. It will provide computer access on campus. The sooner learned, the better.

Step 3: Click on Self Service.

It's the third link in the left-hand menu.

Step 4: Click on Enrollment.

This can be found at the end of the first row, the last box on the right.

Step 5: Click on Enrollment: Add Classes.

It will be the second link in the second row of the enrollment menu, right in the middle.

Step 6: Select Term and press Continue.

Chose the term (semester or session) you are registering for from the options.

Step 7: Select Search for Classes.

This menu will give you information on classes where you have already enrolled and classes on your wish list. To begin, click on the black search button after the 'Search for Classes' drop-down menu.

Step 6: Fill out the search criteria for your class.

This page has basic and advanced search options. You will need information from at least two of the three basic searches; course subject (ex: Chemistry, English, Peace Studies, etc.), course number (ex: 1100, 2000, etc.) or course career (ex: graduate, undergraduate, etc.)

If you know the exact course number for a class, select “is exactly” from the course number drop-down menu. If you are unsure, you can select “greater than or equal to” or “less than or equal to” to broaden your search.

For now, you will always select Undergraduate in the course career drop-down menu.

If you would like to find a class that starts at a specific time or meets on a specific day, use the additional search criteria.

Also use this section if you have more information about the class, such as instructor name or class number, in order to get your desired result.

Step 7: Find your class in the search results

Depending on how specific your search terms are, you will have a varied number of results.

If you get no results, you may have made a mistake in the search terms. Go back and modify accordingly if that happens. Try being less specific.

Once you have found the right class in the results, find the time that works best with your schedule and click on the black Select Class box in the top left of the selection.

Step 8: Choose a laboratory or discussion time

If the class involves a lecture time and a lab or discussion section (not all do), select a lab section to go with the lecture class. Choose which time works for you or which professor you are most interested in, then press the next button on the bottom right.

If your class does not have a lab or discussion component, ignore this step.

Step 9: Click Next again.

This section gives you more information on the class you are selecting. Make sure this is the correct class, then click next. If something is wrong, click cancel.

Note: Some classes need permission numbers. You can get these from your adviser.

Step 10: Repeat steps 7-9 until you have selected all of your classes.

The classes will be placed in your enrollment shopping cart until you are ready to register for the entire set. You will have a registration date assigned, so the last two steps cannot be completed until that time.

Step 11: Click Proceed to Step 2 of 3.

Step 12: Click Finish Enrolling.

If there are scheduling errors, such as conflicting class times, you will not be able to register for those classes. Choose another time slot and try it again.

If all is well, you're registered!
