The shops in downtown Columbia have something for every budget

COLUMBIA — If you're looking for original clothing, take a step outside and shop the streets of downtown Columbia.

All within walking distance of campus, the shops offer various items, including suits, '50s style dresses and designer jeans.

  • Absolute Vintage
  • Where: 923 E. Broadway
  • Call: 875-8440
  • Hours: Monday - Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Details: With racks of 1960s, '50s and '40s clothing, Absolute Vintage offers a large selection of lace and polka dots. Their dresses hang from the ceilings, and accessories line the counters of this pin-up style vintage store.

Binghams

  • Where: 827 E. Broadway

  • Hours: Monday - Wednesday, Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Details: Southeastern Conference-worthy attire won't be hard to find here. Binghams offers men a place to find tailored clothing and expensive designer brands like Southern Tide.  

Breeze

  • Hours: Monday - Tuesday, Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
  • Details: If a dress is what you have in mind, Breeze's selection of formal dresses and trendy clothing fills two stores worth of space. The prices are reasonable, with heels from $30-60 and skirts between $15-30.

Britches Clothing

  • Details: The large selection of low-cost blouses and dresses gives tight spenders a chance to be fashionable.

Elly's Couture

  • Details: Statements can be made with brands at Elly's Couture like Lacoste and Betsey Johnson. Handmade jewelry by Lily Dawson Designs wraps up this boutique store.

  • Details: Find basics and bright colors at Envy, an affordable store with accessories to match any outfit.

Glik's

  • Details: Ride a fashion wave with surfer brands like Billabong and Volcom at Glik's. Swimsuits, dresses and jeans line the racks of this men's and women's store.

Leo's Old Clothes

  • Details: This hidden treasure has costumes, vintage and Army surplus. Dig through a chest full of dollar scarves and pick through the large men's section to find one-of-a-kind items.

Maude Vintage

  • Hours: Monday - Thursday, noon to 7 p.m.; Friday - Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Details: Halloween is a time to be creative, and Maude Vintage offers a large selection of costume rentals you won't find in stores. Maude's also stocks vintage clothing, music and accessories you might not find anywhere else.

Swank Boutique

  • Hours: Monday - Wednesday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday - Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p..m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
  • Details: High-end designers like Free People, B.B. Dakota and J Brand can be found in this little boutique. If you're trying to splurge on a new dress or top, a pair of Toms or a handmade headband, Swank is a go-to fashion forward shop.
