COLUMBIA — Steven Sapp will retire Friday after more than 22 years with the Columbia Fire Department.

But Sapp won't get to relax for long. Assistant Public Works Director David Nichols said Sapp will become the new public information specialist in that department on July 9.

Sapp could not be reached for comment.

Sapp served in numerous capacities with the Fire Department. He became battalion chief in 2005 and has held that title ever since.

Brad Fraizer will replace Sapp as the new battalion chief and as the department's fire marshal. As fire marshal Fraizer has authority to enforce city fire codes.

A reception for Sapp is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday in Rooms 1A and 1B of the Daniel Boone City Building. The event is open to the public.

Supervising editor is Scott Swafford.
