COLUMBIA — Ellison Hutchison, 36, was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday for distributing heroin that resulted in the death of another Columbia man.

Hutchison, nicknamed "Lucky," was indicted on allegations that he sold heroin to Maximillion Shackelford, 22, who died as a result of using the substance on Jan. 23, according to a news release from acting U.S. attorney David Ketchmark of the Western District of Missouri.

If found guilty, Hutchison could face sentences ranging from a minimum of 20 years in federal prison without parole up to a life sentence without parole, according to the release.

Cell phone records and text messages were used to connect Hutchison to the victim on the night of his overdose, according to a previous Missourian report.
