A heat is taking over mid-Missouri. In this photo by Yi Gan, Ryan Mellick holds his 5-year-old daughter, Kristin Mellick, on the sprayground at Stephens Lake Park on Thursday afternoon.

A heat advisory was issued in Columbia for Thursday through Saturday, and Yi Gan seemed to be on the "heat beat" this week. Here, Maddie Perry, a sophomore at Rock Bridge High School, eats chocolate ice cream Wednesday afternoon while standing with a friend on Ninth Street. According to Tamra Coker, an employee at Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream where the two girls purchased the treats, there has been a steady increase of ice cream sales since May.
