COLUMBIA — Two Ashland siblings were electrocuted Wednesday afternoon while swimming in the Lake of the Ozarks.

A 13-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother were swimming near a private dock at the 6.5 mile marker in the Gravois Arm of the Lake of the Ozarks, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol news release. At 12:05 p.m. they received an electrical shock.

Several nearby adults removed the children from the water and attempted to resuscitate them by performing CPR.

Both children were pronounced dead after being transported to the Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.

The source of the electrical shock was unknown as of Wednesday afternoon. The deaths are being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Marine Operations Division and the Division of Drug and Crime Control.
