Fourth of July celebrated with food, clothing and flags

Flags, fireworks and food abound on the Fourth of July in Columbia as residents and visitors gathered at Peace Park and Flat Branch Park for entertainment and activities for children and then stayed to watch the downtown fireworks.

COLUMBIA — This year's Fire in the Sky celebration brought out flags, food and red, white and blue clothing.

Kids dressed in hats, made crowns and danced to music in Flat Branch Park before the firework show began.

The show started at 9 p.m., but the event featured children's activities and concerts in Flat Branch Park and more entertainment in Peace Park earlier Wednesday evening.

According to a previous Missourian article, the Fire in the Sky celebration was moved downtown because of ongoing construction at Memorial Stadium. The move is permanent.
