COLUMBIA — The Missouri softball coaching staff was named the 2012 Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. This is the third time in the past four years that Missouri's staff has won the award. It also won in 2009 and 2010.

The staff, featuring head coach Ehren Earleywine, assistant coaches Pete D'Amour and Melissa Tucci, volunteer assistant coach Phil Bradley and director of operations Gina Schneider, led the program to a 47-17 record, marking the fifth consecutive year that Missouri has won at least 47 games.

While D'Amour said the coaching staff works well together, he thinks much of the credit for the award goes to the players.

"I think the honor is suited more for the kids than the coaching staff," he said. "If they don't buy into what we're saying, then it's all for nothing."
