CAPE GIRARDEAU — A former southern Missouri sheriff and his chief deputy both face sentencing Monday on federal gun charges.
Former Carter County Sheriff Tommy Adams pleaded guilty in April to federal charges for stealing firearms that had been seized as evidence, then selling some of them.
Adams' former deputy, Steffanie Kearbey, pleaded guilty to the same federal charges. Both are being sentenced in U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau.
Adams is still awaiting trial on state charges alleging that he distributed methamphetamine and cocaine. No trial date has been set on those charges.
Adams and Kearbey were arrested in April 2011 and resigned days later.
