A fire Tuesday between southbound U.S. 63 and Bluff Creek Drive required attention from both Boone County and Columbia fire crews.

COLUMBIA – Accidents and an outside fire covering two acres slowed traffic Tuesday afternoon on southbound U.S. 63.

The fire was between southbound U.S. 63 and Bluff Creek Drive.

A text message alert from the Public Safety Joint Communications Center sent at 4:06 p.m. Tuesday said southbound U.S. 63 was closed between Stadium Boulevard and Grindstone Parkway due to several injury accidents.

It wasn't clear whether the accidents were related to the fire. However, Columbia Fire Department Acting Platoon Chief Klif Bullard said it is not uncommon for people to get into car accidents while looking at a fire.

The road reopened at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, though the Public Safety Joint Communications Center said traffic might persist and that drivers should proceed with caution in the area.

No one was injured in the fire, Bullard said.
