Jerry Antel, June 5, 1924 – July 29, 2012, of Columbia

Jerome Strauss Antel Jr., 88, of Columbia, died Sunday, July 29, 2012. He was born June 5, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio to Jerome and Miriam (Kleeblatt) Antel. He married Charlotte Anne Frosh on June 22, 1952, in Washington, D.C.  They moved to Columbia in 2002.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a 1947 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. He taught at George Washington University and worked at Harry Diamond Ordnance Laboratories.
He enjoyed many hobbies, including bonsai, bridge, golf, stamp collecting, and traveling.   He was an avid reader and also enjoyed doing challenging crossword puzzles. He was a founding member of the Mid-Missouri Bonsai Society and was a member of the Columbia and the American Philatelic Societies. He was an eager volunteer in several community activities.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte, son Rusty (Debbie), grandsons Michael and Jonathan, of Columbia; and his sister Barbara Corday, of Chicago.
His family is thankful for the many friends, neighbors, club members, medical personnel, and other community members who greatly enriched his life. No services will be held, per his final instructions. Memorial donations are suggested to the Columbia Public Library, 100 West Broadway, Columbia, MO 65203.
