FROM READERS: Columbia Metro Rotary installs officers and board of directors

Rotary Clubs in 168 countries passed the torch from old to new officers in July. Columbia Metro Rotary, one of six such organizations in Columbia and over 32,000 worldwide, recently took part in this tradition by installing its officers for the Rotary year 2012-2013.

Marcia Machens was installed as Columbia Metro Rotary President for the 2012-2013 year, with Shawn Barnes as Vice President/President-Elect, Gena Patton as secretary and Rose Hayden serving as treasurer. Completing the Metro executive committee is Past President Jim Sharrock. This group will administer projects and functions for the coming year along with a nine-member Metro Rotary board of directors. Serving on that board will be: Rob Bartel, Les Borgmeyer, Karen Brown, Casey Buckman, Sandra Logan, Brad Nelson, Jim Spieler, Andrew Stone and Bob Unrath.

Since its 1993 founding, Columbia Metro Rotary has represented a cross-section of men and women from the city’s business and professional ranks. Columbia Metro is part of Rotary International, a global network of community volunteers who provide humanitarian service and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary Clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious and open to all cultures, races and creeds, with approximately 1.2 million members active today in more than 200 countries.
