Larry N. Winfrey, Feb. 23, 1934 — Aug. 9, 2012

Larry N. Winfrey, 78, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Harry S. Truman Veteran’s Hospital.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Larry was born February 23, 1934, in Easley, Mo., to Walter Leon and Myrtle G. Hudson Winfrey.

Larry graduated from Hickman High School in 1952. He attended the University of Missouri from 1952 to 1953 and received a bachelor's degree from Columbia College in 1976.

He served with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 with the 5th Army Machine Record Unit.

He married Phyllis M. Dolen on October 1, 1960 and she survives.

He worked for State Employment Security in Jefferson City, MFA (Shelter) Insurance for 43 years retiring in 1999. He worked at the Boone County Sheriff’s Department as a Volunteer Reserve Deputy for 32 years.

Larry was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriner’s.

In addition to his wife, Phyllis, of Columbia, survivors include: two sons, David N. Winfrey and his wife Tammy R., and Dennis J. Winfrey and his wife Tammy L., all of Columbia, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital Voluntary Services, 800 Hospital Drive, Columbia, MO 65201.
