Klifton Altis, Jan. 28, 1924 — Aug. 9, 2012, of Columbia

Klifton R. Altis, 88, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012.

He was born on Jan. 28, 1924, in Kansas City to Elsie (East) Altis and Ezra Altis. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas and a Master Sgt. during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

Mr. Altis was an electrician in his early years. Later, he was a sales manager for Pyramid Life Insurance Company for 27+ years. He was the owner and manager of Barzell, Inc., an apartment rental business, for 44 years. He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia and the Sanibel Community Church in Florida. He was proud to be a Mason and Shriner. He was a member of the local Prophet Investment Club, Missouri Symphony Society and the Columbia Apartment Association.

He was an avid nature lover and talented photographer who traveled extensively.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Jeanne (Ekstrum) Altis, his 3 sons and their wives, Kristopher and Susan Altis, Kevin Altis and Nancy Tindle, Kurtis and Beth Altis, and a daughter and her husband, Kandee Altis Bennett and Jack Bennett, and grandsons Evan Altis and Josef Altis, and his sister Ruth Altis. He was the brother of the late Harold Altis.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, with a reception immediately following at the church. The family will have a private burial ceremony the following day.
