COLUMBIA — The city got a respite from the dog days of summer this week with temperatures dropping into the 80s and rain that blew in Sunday morning.

At Stephens Lake Park, residents enjoyed swimming, walking, cycling and other outdoor activities.

The Keeton family took advantage of the break in the heat to start games of volleyball, badminton and catch.

"We haven't spent as much time as we normally do outside, and so we were just blessed by the rain this morning and the cool temperatures," Shannon Keeton said Sunday.

"We want to just spend the entire day outside."
