COLUMBIA – The Missouri volleyball program opened its 2012 season with the annual Black & Gold Scrimmage at the Hearnes Center. The Gold Team, comprised of the Tiger starters, defeated the Black Team, 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 15-12) Friday night.

Transfer Taylor Simpson led the way for the Gold Team with 12 kills on a team-best .476 hitting while junior All-American Lisa Henning  pitched in 10 more kills on .292 hitting.

“I thought we did a lot of things really well tonight,” head coach Wayne Kreklow said following the match. “With a lot of returning players this season, it was nice to get out there and see them play in a competitive setting. We obviously still have a lot of areas where we can improve and we need to work on that this week, but this was a great starting point for our team.”
