Sandra Kormeier, 69, was dedicated to women's health, childbirth education

COLUMBIA — Sandra D. Kormeier of Columbia died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012. She was 69.

Ms. Kormeier was born May 11, 1943, in Reading, Pa., to E. Forrest and Mary Amanda Haines. 

In 1961, she graduated from Reading High School. She graduated from Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences Nursing Program in 1964. Ms. Kormeier also attended MU, Stephens College, and Ottawa University.

Ms. Kormeier was a registered nurse, and she worked for William D. Trumbower and Women’s Health Associates in Columbia. For more than 30 years, she was actively involved in childbirth education and women’s health care.

After 44 years of nursing, she retired in November 2007. 

Ms. Kormeier was a member of Columbia United Church of Christ and a former member of the Celebration Bells Choir.

Ms. Kormeier is survived by three daughters, Krisan Pendleton and her husband, Dave, of McMinnville, Ore., Katrice Montgomery and her husband, Rick, of Columbia, and Korinne Borszcz and her husband, Matt, of Bellbrook, Ohio; a brother, Phillip Haines, of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and seven grandchildren, Layne Pendleton, Quinn Pendleton, Brian Montgomery, Amanda Montgomery, Tyler Montgomery, Ben Borszcz and Sam Borszcz.

Her parents and sister, Pam Bloch, died earlier. 

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will follow at the funeral home. Guests are requested to wear bright colors.
