Barbara Ann Kay, daughter of Eva and John Mittvick (who preceded her in death), born 10/21/38 in Oak Park, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2012, in her home in Gravois Mills, Missouri, at the age of 73.
She was united in marriage to James E. Kay Sr. on 8/13/57 in Cicero, Illinois. To this union 5 children were born. James Kay (Jayse) of St. Charles, Karen Cochran of Columbia, Mo, Katherine Roberts (Rodney) of Columbia, Mo, David Kay (Brenda) of Lake Ozark, Mo. and Karalyn Lowen (Marck) of Hallsville, Mo.
Grandchildren, Michael, James, Barbara Marie, Brandin, Rodney/Andrew, Jessica, David, Rachel, and Jack. Three great-grandchildren: Anighya (deceased), Damian, and one boy on the way in October.
She is survived by her sister, Karen Engelbrecht of Gravois Mills, and brother, John Mittvick of Irving, Texas.
Barbara was raised in the suburbs of Chicago. She graduated from Lyons Township High School in La Grange, Illinois and Columbia College, Columbia, Mo.
She served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, was the director of two children’s preschools, served as a police officer for the University of Missouri Police Department and retired from the U.S. Department of Revenue in 1998.
She and her husband, James, retired to their lake home outside Laurie, Mo. in 1999.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m,. on Tuesday, 8/21/12 at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, Mo. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, 8/22/12 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Barbara’s name to Central Missouri Food Bank.
