COLUMBIA — Todd Akin embarrassed the entire state of Missouri twice this week. Once with his stupid comments to the press on Sunday about rape and, secondly, with his egotistical refusal to step aside so the Republican party could select someone who can effectively argue for overturning Roe v. Wade.
Rep. Akin can no longer do so because he has lost all credibility. When he says it is all about principles, it seems to be a smokescreen for the truth — it is actually all about his own political ambition.
Steven Staker is a Columbia resident.

I wish Democrats held their people to the same standards. You have Joe Biden and company making embarrassing and ridiculous statements on a regular basis.
James--here is what I know; if a Democrat in this state had said something like that, his poll numbers would plummet. Aiken, on the other hand, isn't suffering a bit. THAT'S the kind of Republicans we have in this state. I shudder to think what this putrid excuse of a man would have to do or say to actually lose popularity with his horrid constituency.
The fact that his poll numbers remain high indicates how many Missourians prefer any alternative to McCaskill. A lot of people will hold their nose in the voting booth if that's what it takes to oust her.
"Aiken [sic], on the other hand, isn't suffering a bit."

I haven't personally seen polling numbers 'cause I haven't looked them up.....
But 1400 radio morning talk show folks said he's plummeted 21 points in the last couple of days.
That's huge!
You're post was 2 days ago, I'll give you that. Patience is a virtue.
Steve Staker can't stand the heat; so he jumps ship and throws a good men under the bus. Todd Akin, yes, made an "off the cuff remark" (legitimate rape??), but he is showing he is not of the "liguine spine" ilk of several RINOs who will remain nameless to protect the innocent. This country needs a man in the Senate who will stand his ground... "when the going gets tough, the tough get going."
Missourians... "get Todd Akin in the Senate"... a man who will not wilt before the establishment and lingunie spine RINOs.
And yes, Steve Staker, I, unlike you and your ilk keeping the horse blinders on, do not want to see Roe v Wade overturned. I can see you now "handing-out buggy whips outside the Ford Plant" to turn back the clock to a time when Women did not have the choice nor the choice to vote. I am Pro Life with Choice... the rationale has been repeated often, but males think they know best, especially those in the BIG GOVERNMENT... so they, like Mr. Staker, turn a deaf ear... and blather on.
But God help us all if Hussain Obama gets a second term. He again gets five Pinochios for fibbing to us when he said "if I can't get it done (list the plethora of promises he made along with 'hope & change'), I'll be a one term President." Please please let's all help Obama, aka Barry Soereto, keep that promise.
Finally, as you well know, Todd Akin did not have a teleprompter when he gave us his gaff. The same can not be said for BHO.
