COLUMBIA — The Hickman softball team's bats were hot Wednesday night in its home opener against Boonville High School.
Hickman secured a 12-6 come-from-behind victory, largely because of its hitting. Sydney Washington went 4 for 4, hitting a home run and scoring three runs. She also had two stolen bases. Molly Carter wasn't far behind, going 3 for 4 and scoring two runs. Another notable batter was Taylor Patton, who went 2 for 3.
Despite the hot hitting, Kewpies coach Courtney Haskell credited the win to pitcher Shannon Greene. Haskell said that when the Kewpies were down, Greene did an excellent job of keeping her calm and leading the girls to a comeback win.
"Her pitching was strong," Haskell said. "For the first game, it wasn't a bad outing."
The Hickman softball team's next game is Friday at the 6th Annual Lead Off Tournament in Troy.
