JOPLIN — The Rock Bridge High School softball team is off to a hot start this season, sweeping a Joplin tournament championship.

The Bruins defeated Nevada 4-0 in the championship game behind junior pitcher Breanna Logan's one-hitter. She was backed up offensively by junior infielders Conner Logsdon and Shelbie Atwell who both hit home runs in the game.

The Bruins reached the final by defeating Webb City in the semifinal earlier in the day. Junior Callie Sapp led the team at the plate, going four for four. Logsdon pitched for the Bruins and received enough offensive support for the team to win.

Rock Bridge defeated Nevada, Joplin, and Seneca in group play Friday, outscoring its opponents by a combined 23-4 over the day's three games. Junior catcher Lindsey Grant was strong behind the plate, catching all five games. Junior Hannah Liebhart was also strong offensively throughout the tournament.

The Bruins, now 5-0, will play at 5 p.m. Aug. 29 at home against Jefferson City.
