LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Let's be reasonable about politicians' misstatements

Did the hounds bay when President Obama said that the United States had 57 states? Did that statement reflect Obama’s true knowledge of the facts? Perhaps. Did that statement reflect on Obama’s ability to be the president of the (50) United States? Well, it certainly was a serious error. Did the Republicans and Democrats in one ululation demand Obama be sent to Siberia? I don’t recall that happening.

Maybe we all need to try to keep a reasonable perspective. Maybe the public should take a stand and say “Not for anyone will we call for the tar and feathers; even for serious misstatements!” Besides, we now know for sure that Congressman Akin will stand up for his beliefs against all detractors.
