COLUMBIA — The Rock Bridge girls tennis team defeated Belleville West 5-4 despite failing to win a doubles match in St. Louis on Wednesday.

Top seeds Sophi Farid and Phoebe Boeschen put up 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 wins respectively in the Nos. 1 and 2 singles matchups. Junior Blair Hollenbeck took the lone singles victory for the Belleville West Maroons with a 6-0, 6-4 defeat of Tess Lovig.

Allison Baker, Hannah Pohl and Emily Shaw gave up a combined seven games in their three singles victories, which secured the five points needed for an overall win.

The doubles told another story. Farid and Boeschen fell 9-8 in a tiebreak to Hollenbeck and senior Anna Mernick. The other doubles sets both ended in 8-5 Maroon victories.

The Bruins advance to 4-1 on the season under Coach Ben Loeb.
