ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police say an officer fatally shot a 54-year-old suspect who charged at officers waving a machete.

Police were called to a home around 3:35 a.m. Thursday. Officers were told a family member was in the garage and wouldn't come out.

Police said when they approached Willie Anderson, he came at them with the weapon. When he refused orders to drop it, one officer fired, striking him twice. Anderson was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police said the officer who fired the fatal shot is 26 and has been on the force for two years. This was the fifth time this year St. Louis police have used deadly force.
