COLUMBIA — Rosanna Whitesides was always there when her daughter needed her.

“She’s very kind, very nice, (would) do anything for you,” Jackie Janssen, her daughter, said.

Rosanna Whitesides of Columbia died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012. She was 72.

Mrs. Whitesides was born Sept. 7, 1939 in Hartsburg. She spent her entire life in Boone County. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1957. The longest period of her career was spent at Boone Electric Cooperative where she worked in connects and disconnects and then later as a cashier, Janssen said. Mrs. Whitesides retired in 1998.

She was also involved in the Eagles Auxiliary where she would volunteer at various charity events, Janssen said. Mrs. Whitesides liked to sew, travel and read. Recently, she started using the computer and Facebook, Janssen said. She also was a member of the New Providence Baptist Church.

Mrs Whitesides is the daughter of Ballard and Dolora M. Nichols Watson. She married James Perkins and the couple had two children, Janssen and Jay Perkins. After Mr. Perkins died, Mrs. Whitesides married Donald Whitesides, who had two children from a previous marriage — Dennis Whitesides and Deborah Sheldon, who Janssen said she treated like her own. Mrs. Whitesides is survived by her three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parker Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Those interested may send memorials to the Cancer Research Center at 3501 Berrywood Drive, Columbia, Mo., 65201.
