THE WEEK IN PHOTOS: A week of wacky weather

Sunday, September 2, 2012 | 7:09 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — The topic of weather was at the forefront of many of the best pictures taken by Missourian photographers this past week. The photos below come from Flat Branch Park, the Columbia College soccer field, a field in Harrisburg, the MU Student Recreation Complex and the Missouri football game.

Missourian photographer Kayla Kauffman caught Lucas Cozier, 5, playing in the fountain on Tuesday at Flat Branch Park. Lucas was celebrating his brother Max's third birthday. Lucas was one of many Columbians trying to stay cool and have fun during heat.

Sarah Bricker took this photo of referee Silas Atagana holding the ball while looking on at the Cougar Men's Soccer Alumni Game on Aug. 24. The Columbia College men's soccer team members have high expectations for themselves. They had a winning season in 2011.

The rain that fell last weekend was not enough to get Columbia out of the current historic drought, but the storm this weekend, from what used to be Hurricane Isaac, brought significant rainfall to Boone County.

In this photo by Stuart Palley, Paralympian Sarah Castle joined the MU Wheelchair Basketball team during its morning scrimmage on Aug. 21. Castle is currently competing in her fourth and final Paralympics in London. She is the captain for this year's USA Women's Wheelchair Basketball team.

Jamie Henry-White captured these Tiger fans protecting themselves from the rain during the Missouri vs. Southeastern Louisiana game at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The rain began to come down heavily during the first half of the game, but that did not stop the fans from showing their pride during Missouri's first game of the year.

After Saturdays game, photographer Stuart Palley captured junior defensive lineman Michael Sam giving some of the fans high-fives. Sam had one tackle during the 62-10 victory over Southeastern Louisiana. The Tigers are 1-0 and will take on Georgia next weekend at Memorial Stadium.
