COLUMBIA — Former district rival Jefferson City shut out the Hickman boys soccer team in the Kewpies' home opener Tuesday night.

The 4-0 defeat was disappointing for Hickman (0-1-2), which came into the game looking for its first victory of the season. Jefferson City built its winning streak to three games after victories over Quincy-Notre Dame and Fulton last week.

Before realignment this season, the Jays had been in Class 3, District 9 with both Hickman and Rock Bridge.

Jefferson City scored two early goals within the first 15 minutes of the game and maintained possession of the ball.

With the two-goal deficit, Hickman resorted to aggressive tactics, resulting in yellow cards for two Kewpies players after hard tackles.

Supervising editor is Grant Hodder.
