Columbia-born Elizabeth Smith remembered for community involvement

COLUMBIA — Elizabeth Gayle Smith of Vivian, La., formerly of Columbia, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012. She was 81.

She was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Columbia, to Aubrey and Thelma (O'Brien) McGrath.

She was a graduate of Hickman High School and was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church, the National Art Honor Society and the National Association for Northern Cherokees.

She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Steve Breedlove and his wife, Terri, of Columbia; her daughters, Angela Martin and her husband, Larry, of Doyline, La., and Dena Moore and her husband, Paul, of Vivian, La.; a brother, Cliff McGrath and his wife, Virginia, of Columbia; and grandchildren, Cale and Cullen Breedlove, both of Columbia. 

Her four brothers, A.D. McGrath Jr., Ted McGrath, Dan McGrath and Robert McGrath; and sister, Norma Simas; died earlier.

Visitation will be at noon Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. It will be followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
