COLUMBIA — By 8 a.m. Sunday, around 2,600 people had registered for Columbia's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a 5K race that spreads breast cancer awareness and raises money for research. The Missourian's community outreach team went out to capture photos and stories of participants.

These three sisters participated in the race on the Tenacious Ta Tas for their mother, who died of breast cancer. Sue Yeager, left, is a breast cancer survivor of 32 years. Elaine Frink's husband had colon cancer, and Joyce Fisher, right, came from San Francisco for the event. 

The We Care! team from MU Health Care was running for three co-workers with breast cancer. Rene Blagg, center, finished her last treatment Friday.

The Margari-Ta-Ta-ville team ran in honor of Heather Thomas, center. Heather was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago and is still in treatment.

Joe and Amy Swiney were running in honor of Erin Fallon-Sullivan.
