LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Claire McCaskill fulfills promises to support veterans

Monday, September 17, 2012 | 3:41 p.m. CDT

We must not abandon our veterans when they return home. They sacrificed much for us that it is our duty to do everything we can to make sure they are given the tools necessary to succeed when they return to civilian life.

This is why I am proud to have a senator who led the charge to pass the post-9/11 GI Bill. Claire McCaskill told us when she ran in '06 that she would fight for the benefits that her father, a World War II veteran received for today's veterans, and she followed through on that promise.

This GI Bill will allow our young veterans to couple the real life experience they already have with a quality education so that they can be the future leaders in whatever occupation they enter.

Common sense policies like the GI Bill are only possible when we have politicians like Claire McCaskill in Washington fighting for all Missourians.  She understands that compromise is necessary for progress and her record proves that she is what Missouri's veterans need.
