VOTERS GUIDE 2012: Two candidates vie for Eastern District commissioner in Cole County

Eastern District Commissioner

WHAT’S THE JOB:

The Cole County Eastern District commissioner controls, maintains and supervises county property, which includes the courthouse, jail and other facilities and equipment. The commissioner receives and approves bids and contracts, oversees road and bridge projects and oversees the Cole County Emergency Services (ambulance service). Duties also include serving on boards and commissions within Missouri and working with other political entities on projects such as cooperative road projects and the animal shelter. 

ED WILLIAMS (D), Cole County

Personal: He has been married to his wife, Carole, for 37 years. They have two sons.

Education: Bachelor of science, University of Arkansas-Monticello; Master of arts degree, MU.

Occupation: He has been the owner of a wholesale specialty foods business in mid-Missouri for 20 years.

Background: Founded and now chairs the opposition to the transformation sales tax increase, his first experience in politics.

JEFF HOELSCHER (R), Cole County

Personal: He has two sons, Dylan, 15, and Colton, 12.

Education: Bachelor of science in agricultural business, Lincoln University.

Occupation: Currently completing his fourth year (first term) as Cole County Eastern District commissioner. Has owned Hoelscher Enterprises LLC (construction and remodeling) since 2003. Has had his real estate broker and salesperson license since 2006.

Background:  Elected to the St. Thomas City Council for two terms. Completed part of second term but resigned when he moved out of the city limits.
