Robbery at Passions Adult Entertainment Store prompts school lockdown

Friday, September 21, 2012 | 5:42 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — The Columbia Public School District’s Field School went into lockdown mode at approximately 1 p.m. Friday, district spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark said.

Officers responded to a robbery at 12:51 p.m at Passions Adult Entertainment Store, 1108 Business Loop 70 E., according to an email from Columbia Police Department public information Officer Latisha Stroer. The proximity to the Field School caused officials to put the school on lockdown.

As of approximately 1:30 p.m., the school’s lockdown status was revoked after lasting roughly 30 minutes. The school resumed its normal schedule and routine following the lockdown, Baumstark said.

The robber entered the adult entertainment store and demanded money from the clerk, according to the Police Department's news release. He indicated that he had a gun and threatened to hurt the clerk. The robber fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

Supervising editor is Emilie Stigliani.
