COLUMBIA – The Hickman boys cross country team finished 25th and the girls team 27th on Saturday at the University of Kansas Rim Rock Farm Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
Competing in the Gold Division, senior Nicole Mello was the top finisher for the state of Missouri in the seven-state, 35-team field, completing the 4K race in 15 minutes and 15 seconds. Classmate Hannah Corbin was the second female Hickman finisher in 18:14, good for 170th overall.
The standard race distance in Kansas for girls is 4 kilometers, compared with 5 in Missouri.
Senior Ethan Zars was the top Hickman male with a time of 17:00 over the 5K course. He finished in 69th place. Sophomore Alex Keneipp finished only 29 seconds behind Zars at 17:29 but ended up almost 50 spots below him at 117th.
The team will head south next Saturday to take part in the Laker 5K at Ha Ha Tonka Park in Camdenton. Races are set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
