Frederick Dale Lewis served in Vietnam War, enjoyed fishing

COLUMBIA — Frederick Dale Lewis of Columbia died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. He was 70.

Mr. Lewis was born April 8, 1942, in Fulton to Leonard and Ima Jean Lewis. He was a 1960 graduate of Hickman High School, and he married Barbara Jean Dulle on April 16, 1966.

Mr. Lewis served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Wichita, Kan. He was also a fisherman and fished in the B.A.S.S. and Red Man Circuit Tournaments and won the National Yamaha Fishing Tournament in November 1992.

Mr. Lewis was the 10th generation of the Lewis family.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Lewis; sisters, Sharon Wiser of Columbia, Debbie Tomlin and husband Larry of Columbia, Sandra Wentz of Springfield, Ill., and Lisa Lewis of St. Louis; brother, Robert Joseph Lewis and wife Carolyn of Greenville, S.C.; nephews, Ted Wentz, John Wentz and wife Shannon, Aaron Lewis and wife Heather and Brandon Lewis and niece, Katie Lewis; four great-nephews, and one great-niece.

His parents died earlier.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 Locust St., and inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with full military honors.
