Hickman senior wins girls race at Laker 5K cross-country meet

COLUMBIA— Hickman senior Nicole Mello won the girls' race Saturday at the Laker 5K at Ha Ha Tonka State Park to lead the Kewpies to a seventh place finish. The Hickman boys team placed fourth.

Mello finished in 18 minutes and 8 seconds to help the girls team score 133 points in the 10-team large school division. Teammate and fellow senior Hannah Corbin was 33rd with a time of 22:06, while junior Paige Oursler was two spots behind her at 22:20 in 35th place.

Hickman senior Ethan Zars was 17th in the 13-team boys race in 17:20. He was followed by brothers Jacob Line (29th in 17:41) and Travis Line (31st in 17:45). Junior Brenden Rost was 33rd in 17:50.

Hickman will head to Jefferson City next Saturday to take part in the Helias Invitational at Binder Park. Races are set to begin at 10 a.m.
