ST. LOUIS — A man is dead after a crash near downtown St. Louis, apparently while street racing.

The wreck happened around midnight Monday. Police say 24-year-old Michael Boone of Pine Lawn lost control of a car and slammed into a concrete pillar on Broadway.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that according to Matthew Boone, the victim's brother, Michael Boone said about an hour before the crash that he was going to street races in his girlfriend's car.
