Police make 27 arrests at checkpoint Friday

COLUMBIA — Seventeen people were arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated at a sobriety checkpoint overnight Friday.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department held the checkpoint at the intersection of Stadium Boulevard and Mick Deaver Memorial Drive. The checkpoint was held with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Columbia Police Department, MU Police Department, Hallsvillle Police Department and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Other arrests included one felony arrest for unlawful use of a weapon, one misdemeanor for driving under suspension, four misdemeanor arrests for driving without a license, two misdemeanor arrests for minor in possession of intoxicants and two misdemeanor drug arrests.

Approximately 1,322 vehicles were checked between 11:55 p.m. and 3:02 a.m.
