COLUMBIA — Clair Willcox will return to the University of Missouri Press as editor-in-chief and associate director, MU announced Friday.

Willcox was laid off in the summer after the University of Missouri System decided to substantially overhaul the press. Authors who have published with the press and others have pushed hard for Willcox's return.

A release from the MU News Bureau said Willcox "will be responsible for forging relationships with MU faculty, programs, departments and schools in an effort to strengthen the press's position as an essential and integral component of university research and scholarships."

The press is now under MU's operation. One of Willcox's first priorities is to contact press authors and "work to reengage them as we move forward and become a part of MU," he said in the release.

He begins his duties immediately, the release said.

Supervising editor is Elizabeth Brixey.
