Columbia College volleyball wins 146th straight conference match

COLUMBIA — The Columbia College women's volleyball team defeated William Woods 3-0 on Saturday, the team's 146th consecutive conference win during the regular season.

The Cougars (18-1, 8-0) knocked off the Owls (14-4, 8-4) 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18 and have not lost a contest in the American Midwest Conference since Oct. 3, 2002 when they fell 5-1 to Missouri Baptist. They have won eight conference championships since that season.

Middle hitter Brooke Simpson had a match-high 15 kills, followed by middle hitter Carol Berger (11 kills) and outside hitter Kahoriz Feliz (10 kills). All three women are juniors.

Senior setter Paula Ferreira had 46 assists to lead all players while senior utility player Elena Berroteran had a match-high 14 digs.

Columbia College will head to St. Louis on Monday to take on Harris-Stowe State in another conference match. Play is set to start at 7 p.m.
