Rock Bridge girls golfers win sectional competition

The Rock Bridge girls golf team won Monday's Class 2, Sectional 2 Tournament at Tanglewood Golf Club in Jefferson City to advance as a team to next week's state competition where the Bruins will defend last season's state title.

The Bruins shot a 342 to edge Lafayette-Wildwood (344) for the title. Hickman placed third at the sectional at 366, ahead of Parkway West (370), Jefferson City (377) and Marquette (395).

Rock Bridge was led by Makayla Baker, who shot a 10-over par for an individual seventh-place, and Samantha Farmer, who was 11-over par for eighth place. Parkway West's Emily Jan Goldenstein won at 1-under par.

Kasey Nichols led Hickman, shooting 17-over for 16th place. Laura Rowe also qualified for individual state competition, shooting 18-over to finish in a two-way for 17th.

The Class 2 state championship is set for Oct. 15 and 16 at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau.
