MOUNT VERNON — The Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon is getting $343,000 from the Department of Veterans Affairs to pay for a new solarium for its dining room and more space for rehabilitation.

The Joplin Globe reported that the home is one of seven in the state operated by the Missouri Veterans Commission.

James Dennis, the administrator at the Mount Vernon home, said the solarium will add dining room space and have other benefits for the home's residents, including adding more natural light.

He also said the rehabilitation addition will allow for larger equipment and more space for people in wheelchairs to maneuver.

Dennis says he doesn't know when construction on the projects will begin.
