COLUMBIA — A 34-year-old Jefferson City man was arrested Friday morning in connection with an attempt to solicit a 14-year-old boy online.
The suspect, Nicholas Adam Bax, was taken into custody at his home in Jefferson City after the Boone County Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force and the Jefferson City Police Department served him a warrant.
Beginning Sept. 14, a man began communicating online with what he believed to be a Boone County youth, who was actually a detective with the Cyber Crimes Task Force, according to a Boone County Sheriff's Department release.
The older man began the conversation via e-mails on his computer and then switched to texting by cell phone.
He sent sexually graphic photos, as well, and tried to arrange a meeting with the undercover officer posing as the 14-year-old boy, according to the release. The man reportedly also sought graphic photos from what he believed to be a boy.
During a search of the suspect's home, the sheriff's department seized the phone and computer used to solicit the minor, according to the release.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted enticement of a child; attempted sexual exploitation of a minor; and attempted sexual misconduct of a child.
Bax is being held at the Boone County Jail in Columbia while awaiting formal charges from the Boone County prosecutor.
