Columbia Youth Service Day set for Oct. 20

COLUMBIA — The Youth Community Coalition and Columbia Community Non-Violence Initiative will hold events to provide volunteer opportunities for children Saturday.

Volunteers will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Peace Park for a short rally and light breakfast. Projects focusing on the downtown area will begin at 10 a.m. and finish by noon.

Some opportunities include:

  • Removing graffiti from public areas downtown.

  • Removing trash and debris from Hinkson Creek.

  • Assisting elderly residents with home repair and yard work.

  • Sorting and reorganizing clothes at The Wardrobe.

  • Planting tulips.

  • Sorting and organizing food at the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.

  • Cleaning up local parks and public spaces.

The event is open to the public and youth of all ages. To register, go to yc2.org. Registration forms should be submitted to Ryan Worley, coordinator with the coalition, at ryan@yc2.org.
