COLUMBIA — Shortly after noon Wednesday, officers were dispatched to University Hospital in response to a report of a gunshot victim who had been dropped off at the emergency room by a private vehicle.

The driver did not stay after dropping off the victim, 31-year-old Beau T. Leach of Columbia.

Columbia police Sgt. Jill Schlude said Leach was taken immediately into surgery, after which he identified 29-year-old Justin R. Campbell as a suspect.

Fulton police took Campbell into custody at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Schlude said Columbia police do not have information on the specifics of Campbell's arrest or if he was cooperative.

Schlude said police believe the shooting might have been about methamphetamine.
